Flexential ERGs: Helping you flex who you are
Last month our CEO, Chris Downie, shared his reflections on the past year since taking the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge.
In his blog post, Chris highlighted three DEIB initiatives that were front and center during that time – one of those highlights is the work we’ve done with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). As we look back on what we’ve accomplished along Flexential’s DEIB journey so far and ahead to what we have planned in the months and years to come, we are excited about the community and camaraderie our ERGs have created within our workplace.
When Flexential first set out to build its ERG program in the summer of 2021, we had a simple goal in mind – to create spaces where our employees could come together and bring their whole selves into safe environments designed to foster learning, understanding, allyship, and personal/professional growth. Our ERGs are employee-led and employee-driven. That also means they are employee-founded! While our People & Culture team helps facilitate, the beauty of these groups is that they are for the people, of the people, and by the people. This is where YOU come in!
As we move into year two of our ERG initiative, we want to ensure our employees continue to have opportunities to participate. On Wednesday, October 26 from 11am – 1pm MST, we will be hosting a hybrid (in-person and virtual) Employee Resource Group Fair. During this event, employees have the opportunity to learn more about each of our ERGs to help them identify where they feel synergies with their own values and how they can activate with the different groups.
We currently have four unique ERGs – with plans in the works to build more! Ahead of our event, we want to share a bit on what our ERGs represent and introduce you to their unique personalities.
Women Who Flex
This was our first ERG, inspired by the desire to support and elevate women in our workplace, and especially in our industry. Programming and engagement for this group has included a wide range of workshops on topics such as building a growth mindset to a CliftonStrengths® assessment. Members have also participated in several networking events and a 2022 summer reading series. We’re very excited for the continuation of our mentorship program!
FlexMORE
Our Multicultural Opportunity, Resource, and Engagement ERG recognizes that there’s more to each of us than what meets the eye. This group came together to celebrate diverse heritages, elevating each other’s stories and voices to bring more of who we are into what we do. For example, Flexential recognized Juneteenth last year by giving employees the e-book “How to Be an Anti-Racist” by Ibram X. Kend, and this year by opening up discussion around the movie “Harriet.” Expect more from this group going forward to recognize, honor, and educate around the diverse cultures and backgrounds we have.
FlexFocus
As a people-focused company in a tech-driven world, we knew it was imperative to invest in the wellness and development of our employees. FlexFocus represents a safe and resourceful space for employees to be present for each other through wellness, education, and connection to discover the support needed – for yourself and your loved ones, and equipping you to care for yourself and loved ones. We are excited to host various engagement experiences and learning sessions, from Mental Wellness Mondays to guided meditations to practical tools and guest speakers that span the spectrum of mental health topics.
FlexPride
FlexPride exists to provide support for navigating the workplace with LGBTQIA+ needs and to create a safe place for members and allies to share, learn, and grow together. This year’s Pride month served as a springboard for launching this group. We’re proud of the engagement we had with employees all throughout Pride month and are committed to this ongoing work – from gender neutral bathrooms in our office locations to de-biasing our language to creating opportunity for thoughtful conversations..
At Flexential, our belief is that when an environment is created where employees can feel safe and empowered to use their voice, real change can occur. We value the thoughts, ideas, and opinions of each employee. Representation from diverse groups of employees is essential to ensuring our culture is shaped and influenced around what our people feel, need, and want. Flexential team – we hope to see as many of you as possible on October 26 at 11am MST!
